Getting certified as a scuba diver is an exciting and rewarding experience. Whether you decide to go for the PADI Open Water Diver certification or something different, you'll want to know what to expect and how long it takes. Below is an overview of the certification process. This includes information about the course costs, speciality courses required, and whether online courses are available.

PADI Open Water Diver certification

Before you can apply to become a PADI Open Water Diver, you will need to learn how to scuba dive. This course will increase your confidence and allow you to try different skills. During the course, you'll practice these skills under the guidance of a PADI Instructor.

PADI Open Water Divers offer many benefits. PADI Open Water Divers will teach you how to scuba diver and allow you to interact with the aquatic world. During the course, you'll do 4 open water dives. These dives can take place in the sea, lake, or ocean.

Required courses in specialty subjects

You can begin your scuba certification journey if you've always wanted to dive in the ocean, but are unsure about the specificities. PADI scuba courses are designed for divers who want to take on the challenges that come with diving. You will be taught about marine biology, underwater navigation and basic scuba equipment. Additionally, you will learn communication skills and how underwater lights can be used.

For those who love the underwater world, the PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty Course can be a great option. It teaches divers to identify the species and groups of these animals, as they also learn how to relate between them. This course is recommended for people who are passionate about aquatic life and counts towards the Master Scuba Diver rating.

Cost of certification as a diver

The cost to become a scuba instructor varies depending on which training program you take and how many dives that you are doing. The average course takes 4 days and costs about $500, but it can be less. Although the cost of training is variable, most programs are reasonably priced and offer multiple-day courses.

Personal gear will be a major part of your certification costs. These items include a snorkel, fitted mask, wetsuit boots, and two pairs of scuba dive fins. You want to make sure you get high-quality gear that will last many dives. A top-of-the line diving computer can be expensive.

Online scuba certification

An online certification is an option for anyone who wants to scuba dive but doesn't have the time or desire to travel. You will reap many benefits from completing an online course. An online course will allow you to spend more time at home than in a classroom. You will also have the flexibility to study at your own pace. Once you've completed the online course you can take a practical training program if you're so inclined.

PADI courses can be purchased online starting at $129. This includes access to course materials and knowledge development training. However, if you want to complete the course without buying course materials, you can get the SSI certification for much less.
