Famous Divers

Some famous divers are also famous for their involvement in environmental issues. Bill Nye, for example, became interested in scuba diving after his father accidentally tossed him overboard. He is currently the president of Ocean Futures Society, an international non-profit educational organization. Lloyd Bridges, a prominent diver, was also a key figure in the promotion of the sport via the TV series Sea Hunt (which aired between 1957 and 1961).

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise is one of the most famous celebrities in the world and he is a certified scuba diver. He has done many underwater stunts throughout his career and even completed freediving courses for his Mission Impossible movies. In one scene, Tom held his breath for six minutes!

Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson had scuba certification to be able participate in "Fool's Gold." She was initially afraid of diving but she completed the course and is now a certified diver. She now loves diving.

James Cameron

Many people are curious about why James Cameron is such a well-known diver. He is probably the most well-known person in the world because he spent so much time as a director of films. Despite his busy schedule he still made it to Beneath the Sea New York. While his busy schedule was due largely to his participation with the James Cameron Awards Awards, his hectic schedule meant that he was constantly being followed by the media. Beneath the Sea management arranged for him to remain low-key in order to avoid being publicized.


Zale Perry

American scuba diver Zale Perry has spent her entire life diving and writing about the sport. She was born in Milwaukee. She first learned to dive at the age of eight. Zale was both a skin diver (scuba diver) and pioneer of scubadiving in the 1950s. Zale was also an underwater equipment tester and specialist. She was featured on Sports Illustrated's cover in 1955. She became a scuba instructor later and started photographing underwater.

Greg Louganis

Greg Louganis, a famous diver, has a unique background in both acting and sports. As a child, Louganis was a judoka and then a diver. He chose to pursue an acting profession after graduating from University of California Irvine. After taking acting lessons, he started to appear in commercials. He also began acting in television series.

Alexandre Despatie

Alexandre Despatie is an American diver. He was born on the 8th of June 1985. He is the first diver ever to win three World Championships at the same time, and his accomplishment has earned him a spot among the top divers in the world. He also anchors the French-language coverage for the Olympic Winter Games.

Mike Nelson

Mike Nelson is a famous diver. He was also a regular on "Mike Nelson", a television show that aired exclusively on NBC. He was a diver free-lance and a former Navy Frogman. His skills in diving enabled him save everything from a bike to a nuclear weapon. Lloyd Bridges also voice-overnarrated the show.
