What is the Difference between a Wet Suit & a Dry Suit?

padi certification

The main difference between a drysuit and a wetsuit is the amount of water allowed to enter the suit. However, the choice of wetsuit or drysuit will ultimately depend on your personal preferences and the activities you plan to participate in. Consider questions such as how much time you'll be in water, how cold the water gets, and your body type.

Gore-Tex dry suits

Fabric is a major difference between GoreTex dry suits versus wetsuits. Non-GoreTex suits don’t breathe as well, and they don’t provide the same level comfort and durability. New dry suit fabrics include waterproof and breathable fabrics. Kokatat, for example, designed a dry suit made of a durable, yet breathable Gore-Tex fabric. Kokatat's suits are the first to have been developed and put on the market.

Trilaminate dry suits

The basic difference between wet suits and trilaminate dry suits is the material used for the outer shell of each suit. Trilaminate suits have a waterproof feature, however they lack insulation. They are also less flexible than trilaminate suits and must be properly fitted. This article will provide information on the main differences between wet and trilaminate suits as well as tips on how to choose which one is best for you.

The Kokatat Hydrus 3L update to the T3 Swift Entry features a three-layer, water-resistant, breathable fabric. Its nylon outer layer and polyurethane inner coating are tough, while the soft knit polyester inner layers keep water vapor away. This drysuit features tough latex necks, wrists, and ankle seals to keep water out.

Suits from IR

You should not compare the benefits of a waterproof suit to a drysuit. They are both waterproof and watertight which makes them more effective in keeping you dry. Dry suits can keep you warm while also keeping water from transferring to your body. A lot of dry suits also have purge vals. Aircrews, for example, often use dry suits.
